Combining veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, Fishguard provides a unique new service to Scottish aquaculture, something more akin to ‘veterinary husbandry’, representing a paradigm shift to that offered by more traditional diagnostic fish health services
Rather than the more traditional route of vets or fish health biologists entering industry after time spent in stand-alone vet practice or straight from vet school, Fishguard in Scotland is managed by people coming into the fish health service industry from production.
Veterinary leadership is provided by Nikos Steiropoulos, who has over 10 years working as a fish veterinarian within large production companies in the Mediterranean. Fish health work in intensive aquaculture production combined with training of aquaculture students in fish pathology for eight of those years allow Nikos to bring a qualified comparative approach to the salmon industry.
Our presence in both Scotland and Norway gives Fishguard a unique position in the world of fish farming. With close to 20 fish health biologists and veterinarians, supported by additional lab technicians, the Fishguard family represents a diversity of key experience in fields such as nutrition, water quality, recirculation, breeding and fish biology.
Both Scotland and Norway offer a wide range of fish health services; veterinary services, lab and analytical services and advisory consultation. Our sister company in Norway also offers environmental and oceanographic services. Through our own R&D efforts and also by working closely with our customers, Fishguard strives to always expand our range of services to meet the needs and requests of the aquaculture industry.
